Orthopaedic instruments

Orthopaedic surgery calls for robust instruments that can cope with bone: rongeurs and bone cutters, osteotomes and chisels, bone levers and elevators, curettes, mallets and heavy retractors. These instruments take high loads, so solid construction and well-finished joints are essential.

Common orthopaedic instruments

  • Rongeurs and bone-cutting forceps
  • Osteotomes, chisels and gouges
  • Bone levers, Hohmann retractors and elevators
  • Curettes and rasps
  • Bone-holding forceps and wire instruments

Our orthopaedic range covers trauma, joint and general orthopaedic work. Send us your list and we will confirm patterns and sizes.

Questions

Orthopaedic FAQs

What is a rongeur used for?

A rongeur is a heavy, scoop-tipped forceps used to cut and remove bone in small bites. Single- and double-action versions are available; double-action rongeurs give more cutting force for the same hand pressure.

What is the difference between an osteotome and a chisel?

An osteotome is bevelled on both sides and cuts in a straight line through bone, while a chisel is bevelled on one side only and is used to pare or shape bone.

Do you supply Hohmann retractors?

Yes. Hohmann retractors are available in several blade widths and tip shapes for exposing bone during orthopaedic procedures.

Can I order by catalogue code?

Yes. Every instrument has a catalogue code (for example SC-GI/035). Send us a list of codes, names or a photo of your tray and we will confirm availability and pricing, usually within one working day.

Can you build a complete set for this specialty?

Yes. We can match an existing tray list or help you put together a new set, supplied with every instrument labelled so it is easy to check and re-order.
